Sridhar Balakrishnan, Group CEO of Duroflex and Sleepyhead
Sridhar Balakrishnan is the Group CEO of Duroflex, one of India's most established mattress and sleep solutions brands, where he was brought in specifically to lead the company's transformation from a family-run business into a professionally managed, omnichannel organisation.

He oversees both Duroflex and Sleepyhead , the group's digital-first brand , putting him in the rare position of running a legacy retail business and a D2C challenger brand simultaneously under one roof. He also serves as a Non-Executive Independent Director at Safari Industries.

Sridhar's work is a live case study in one of the most important questions facing Indian consumer businesses today: how do you modernise a brand with decades of offline equity without breaking the trust and distribution that made it successful in the first place?
Background & Journey
Sridhar holds a B.Tech in Electronics from IIT (BHU) Varanasi and an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur. He spent 17 years at Marico, eventually rising to Chief Operating Officer for clusters across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa , overseeing international P&L, sales, business finance, and supply chain for the India business. He then moved to Star India as President and Head of Distribution, before serving as MD and CEO at ACC Limited and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Ambuja and ACC within the Adani Group. The breadth of this career , across FMCG, media, and industrials , gives him a genuinely cross-industry perspective on what operational transformation actually requires at the leadership level.

Sridhar Balakrishnan appeared on Dilse Omni Talks with host Saurabh Agrawal, where the conversation explored “What it really takes to modernise a legacy retail brand without losing what made it great.”
3 Key Takeaways from the Episode
● Legacy brands need patience, not panic. Rushing a business built over 50 years of distribution relationships and offline trust into a digital-first model usually destroys what was working. Real transformation requires sequencing , fixing the internal foundations before changing what the customer sees.
● Two brands with different DNA need two different playbooks. Duroflex and Sleepyhead serve different customers, operate through different channels, and cannot be managed with one strategy or one team mindset. Understanding that distinction is not a nice-to-have , it is what makes the group model work.
● Modern retail transformation is an internal problem first. The customer experience only changes after the systems, incentives, and organisational structure inside the business have changed. Brands that start with the external face and work backwards usually find they have built something the internal organisation cannot sustain.
