Arjun Vaidya: Entrepreneur, Educator & Investor

Arjun Vaidya's story with omnichannel didn't start with a strategy deck, it started with a failure. He signed six distributors, sent ₹10 lakh worth of stock into general trade, and got back ₹9 lakh in returns with only ₹1 lakh in actual payment. That single disaster is what convinced him to give up on offline entirely and pivot Dr. Vaidya's online, built around free Ayurvedic doctor consultations as an assisted-sales layer, a decision that eventually led to a successful exit rather than a forced offline expansion.

Today, Arjun operates across three roles at once. As an educator, he's taught over 1,500 entrepreneurs through GrowthSchool cohorts and his own "Founders for Founders" mentoring, which started almost by accident as informal office hours from a beach house in Alibaug. As a judge, he's evaluated founders on national television through Shark Tank India and Idea Baaz, and more recently created his own format, Pickle and Pitch, born from hearing a founder's pitch on a pickleball court. And as an investor at V3 Ventures, he now backs the kind of consumer brands he once was, with a specific eye for sports and wellness, specialised beauty, men's grooming, and pet humanisation.

Background – education and career

Arjun founded Dr. Vaidya's and scaled it before choosing to exit at the point that made sense for the business, rather than chasing the biggest possible outcome. That decision, walking away deliberately rather than staying attached to the brand, has shaped much of how he now advises other founders. Since the exit, his career has moved fluidly between mentoring, television, and venture investing, giving him a rare vantage point: he has built a brand from a failed launch, sold it, taught the lessons from both ends, and now sits on the other side of the table evaluating other founders' pitches.

3 key takeaways from the episode

  1. Giving up on a channel entirely can be the smarter call. Arjun didn't try to patch the GT distribution model, he abandoned it completely and rebuilt around online and assisted sales, a decision that only looks obvious in hindsight.

  2. Not every founder should be the face of the brand, but every founder should invest in real, owned content. He draws a hard line between founder branding as ego and content as an actual owned asset, citing examples like Master Cut Tales and Clearly Tripping as brands that built content nobody else could rent.

  1. As a VC, missing a deal costs less than chasing the next one out of regret. His honest account of missing Zepto's first round, and the mentor advice not to chase "the next Flipkart" just because you missed the first one, shapes how he now evaluates founders with more patience than fear.

Books or notable references mentioned

No specific book was cited, but two frameworks from the conversation are worth capturing directly: his investment framework of 50% founder, 20% market, 30% numbers, and his closing line on the most underrated founder metric, organic, non-paid share of revenue, which he argues most founders chase far too late.
